Rare and original cast iron “Safe” Still Bank manufactured by the J. & E. Stevens Company of Cromwell, Connecticut.
The design for this mechanical toy bank was patented in 1891 by Russell Frisbie, and this bank
is made in the form of a floor safe and features reticulated panels on all six sides and a key lock (the key is not present).
The bank is 3

½ in wide, 2¼ in deep, and weighs 10½ oz
. Text cast into the face reads simply “SAFE”. There are heart, diamond, rectangle, and “V” shaped cut outs on all sides of the safe, which stands on four integrally cast feet. The bank has red and gold surface paint. T
